By Paul & Eric Hinkle Car Community Gathers to Give One of our favorite car shows of the year was held last month in Clovis. For the ninth year, Clovis First Assembly of God Church held their annual car show. Events like these are at the core of local car culture. Cars and motorcycles gathered on the lawn and in the parking lot with one common goal; to strengthen our community and share each other’s hard work and passion. The warm weather brought out cars, trucks and motorcycles of all types. You won’t find many shows where a Porsche 944, Model A’s, low riders and hot rods are all parked next to each other, but more important than the cars is the reason behind this show. The event is a fundraiser for the church's Loaves & Fishes Food Ministry. The proceeds from this event and others make it possible to distribute approximately 250 bags of food every month to the needy working poor and elderly within our local community. Each year in August they give the kids backpacks filled with school supplies to start off the new school year, and in December, the kids receive $10 gift certificates for McDonalds. For those who arrived early in the morning, coffee and doughnuts were available to start your day. Later in the day car enthusiast could grab a tri-tip sandwich, Mexican food or the kid favorites, hot dogs and popcorn. Byron and Michael Brantley donated all the food for the BBQ and also the monies raised went to the Ministry as well. Everyone had a good time hanging out with old friends and making new ones. Most of the rodders have been coming to this show since it’s beginnings and are looking forward to coming back next year to kick off the car show season.
