Clovis Park in the Park
by Eric Hinkle
June 3, 2015 On May 16th, Treasure Ingmire Park in Clovis played host to the first Clovis Park in the Park gathering of 2015. Around 100 cars, trucks and rods of every type and manufacture began showing up around 4pm to stake their claim on the grass. Several San Joaquin Valley Mustang and Central Valley Mustang Club members represented their clubs with beautiful early and late model muscle cars. Tom Moore drove in his magazine cover quality, restored to stock 1962 VW ragtop, other members of the New and Old Stock VW club brought out their always cool and unique vans and beetles. It was really nice to see club placards, license plate frames and stickers from almost every club in town. "This will be our third year at the park, it feels like we picked up right where we left off last year. Everyone who has attended over the last 2 years knows what to expect"Paul Hinkle said. After promoting the Clovis Motorsports Jamoree for the chamber of commerce until 2012, Hinkle began organizing this smaller and lower profile gathering. "I created Park in the Park in 2013 to provide somewhere for local rodders and car enthusiast to gather in a non-competitive environment," he said. "I want this to be a community event, and I think it is just that. We are a hundred percent volunteer, without them and our sponsors this couldn't be possible." A free BBQ and potluck style dinner for all participants rounded off a perfect evening. This was the first of five gathering held on the third Saturday of the month through September. The gatherings attendance grows with each show, if you plan on attending a future show bring your favorite side dish to share and get there early to grab a shady spot.
