By Paul Hinkle BIOLA 4th ANNUAL 9/11 MEMORIAL CAR SHOW On Sunday September 7th the VFW Post 5845 held their 4th Annual 9/11 Memorial Car Show. This ceremonial event started at 12:30 with a tribute, taps and the lowering of the flag to half staff followed by the singing of the National Anthem in honor of the victims and families affected by the September 11, 2001 attacks. It was a very touching ceremony and you couldn’t help but remember where you were as you watched the tragic events unfold. After the tribute the flag was again raised to signify the strength and resilience of America. This annual event is held at the Community Center in Biola. In the midst of a busy harvest season it was nice to see the local farmers and the community taking time out to show off their hot rods. You could find some of the valleys nicest street rods, customs and pickups on display. Of special interest was the Muscle Best of Show 1968 Camaro, a well-deserved winner. The proceeds from this event where donated to Toys for Tots, food distribution, school scholarship programs and local schools. CLASS WINNERS: Car Category – Bob Jones 1955 Chevy, Truck Category – Terry Cato 1946 Ford Pickup, Muscle Category Best of Show – Robert Hernandez 1968 Camaro, Truck Category Best of Show – Tim Huber 1959 Ford F100, Original Category Best of Show – Robert Huber 1930 Ford Model T, Overall Best of Show – Sal Saldivar 1959 HTOP Impala. Clovis Farmers Market On Friday September 12th, a group of local rodders gathered on Pollasky Avenue south of 5th Street for the Clovis Farmers Market. Once the cars were parked everyone enjoyed the local food and the sights and sounds of Old Town Clovis. Despite the warm evening a large crowd was downtown to visit their favorite vendors and listen to live music. Many people were interested in the 1965 Mustang convertible owned by Neil and Nancy McCarter. They also took pictures of the other street rods to share with family and friends. Many of them told stories about their own street rods or someone they knew with one. These stories are always interesting to hear and you never tire of them.
